Bonsal American Honored with Mayor’s International Community Award
Awarded for outstanding community involvement and philanthropy
CHARLOTTE—Bonsal American received the 2008 Mayor’s International Community Award (MICA) for a medium-sized, foreign-owned business in recognition of the company’s outstanding community involvement and philanthropy at The Mayor's International Community Awards Gala Event on May 17.
Since 1998, MICA is co-sponsored by the Mayor’s International Cabinet, Charlotte Sister Cities, World Affairs Council of Charlotte, North Carolina World Trade Association – Charlotte Chapter, and International House. This event and awards were created to honor the philanthropic giving and other forms of support that many of Mecklenburg County's foreign-owned firms have given to non-profit organizations in the Charlotte area.
Bonsal American is involved in several local charities to help improve the community, the most prominent being HomeAid. The Sakrete Sack and Diamond Play of the Game programs raise money for HomeAid, a leading national non-profit provider of housing for the homeless, through the National Football League (NFL) and Major League Baseball (MLB). They are also contributors to the Classroom Central Program for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System, the Multiple Sclerosis and Down Syndrome Associations of Charlotte, Anson County Community College and the United Way of Central Carolina. In-kind product donations are also made to various local organizations.
“The Mayors International Community Awards is a great way to showcase how foreign firms can invest more than just money into our economy. The philanthropy of companies like Bonsal American enriches our community in ways that money alone cannot and they build stronger bonds between the local and international communities.” said Alexis Gordon, Program Coordinator for the Mayor’s International Cabinet.
“Bonsal American thrives on the culture that believes in being a good citizen,” said David Maske, President of Bonsal American. “We feel very honored to have received this award and strive to be a good neighbor to all the communities in which we do business.”
Initiated by Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory, MICA was expanded in 2003 to include companies in the following N.C. counties: Alexander, Anson, Cabarrus, Catawba, Chester, Chesterfield, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lancaster, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly, Union and York.
